Book Review: Dharmayoddha Kalki by Kevin Missal
The ground for the Mythological tales in India has seen a huge expansion in recent 5 to 7 years. Few tales have even entered in the lanes of nations abroad. So yes I can proudly say that the Indian mythology is on the rising. What made them so, is the inculcation of modern writing style in the classic Indian mythology. Thus the reader feels more connected with the character as it has been made more alive than it used to decades back. One such tale is Dharmayoddha Kalki – Avatar of Vishnu written by young writer Kevin Missal.
Dharmayoddha Kalki – Avatar of Vishnu is a mythological fiction cum fantasy saga. The protagonist of the story is Kalki Hari, a young man, who is living a carefree and a peaceful life with his parents and his young brother in a beautiful village called Shambala. Kalki is a strong man, but there is a massively great truth yet to be revealed upon him, he is the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu.
According to the prophecy, the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu will come to Earth in Kalyug to fight with the adharma. So does the existence of Kalki proves the validity of the prophecy? As the story progresses, the plot spreads unpleasantness in the air of Shambala. The village is set to be poured in the pot of troubles. Now the Kalki must turn up as a saviour for his people.
Kali, the selfish ruler of a kingdom, serves as an arch-enemy of the story. Kalki must unleash his true strength, he must travel to a place to realise his instincts of being the avatar of Vishnu, only then he will be able enough to face Kali.
Writer Kevin Missal has done an amazing work in putting up such an engrossing work of mythological fiction. The world building and character development become the foundation stones of the story.
Dharmayoddha Kalki – Avatar of Vishnu includes romance, love, action, betrayal, revenge, courage, that, all-in-all, works precisely to keep one engaged throughout the story. The story though starts to lose the pace in the mid, soon picks up that eventually sustains till the end.
Dharmayoddha Kalki is the first book in the trilogy series! And yes I am eagerly waiting for the second book, as the author has deliberately left the few mysteries untold that are expected to be revealed in the next book.
